Master Angler #1 report
09 Feb 2026 • By Ruari LuddenOur first competition of the year,
We started our first master angler of the year with spirits high, and lads having the craic in the car park before the peg draw, 15 senior anglers fished and 1 junior angler,
With lads eager to get out everyone set off to there pegs and awaiting the call for lines in at 11am, we fished 11am-4pm, low water 2:30, we had curracloe marked in for our first venue of the year! forecast had other plans throughout the week so we decided a venue change to duncannon would be safer for everyone!
It was a quick start for the ever improving Aaron boyne who landed a lovely 36cm flounder first cast, and Jamie Forsyth — landing a fine 40cm flounder witch would later on win him the longest flat, Brendan Byrne on peg 1 also on his first cast had a sand goby, was slow enough throughout the day with our junior angler Luke kinsella catching a under sized dab to get him off the mark an hour in, one of our new members Keith Ryan who had a lovely 31cm flounder just after left Luke with catching up to do!
Mid way throughout the competition there was a small run of flounder with a couple of lads picking up some fish, Wayne Hamilton had a fine 34cm flounder with Sean Kinsella right after landing a nice 32cm flounder, Luke Kinsella had a cracking 39cm flounder full of meat going on for 2.5lb, was delighted with his life landing his new PB!!
We ended the competition at 4pm and surprisingly to the lads there was no counting round fish caught for the pool!
Our first winner of the year went to Jamie Forsyth, with two fine flounder consisting of a 30cm and 40cm flounder, Aaron boyne in second place had 3 under sized and 1 counting fish being a 36cm flounder, and in third place Martin Ryan with a 28cm flounder and a 34cm,
Fish consisted of 2 sea trout, SAFELY RELEASED! 18 flounder, 2 dabs and 2 sand gobys…
