Access & Permissions
Going fishing in Ireland is generally easy, with much of the fishing either free or controlled by clubs who make permits readily available.
- Where fishing is controlled, access is normally at designated entry points indicated on your permit
- Where fishing is free, access may be through farmland — always seek the landowner's permission
- Landowners do not always own the fishing rights on adjoining waters
Safety
- Wear a life jacket (legally required in boats under 7m)
- Follow advice on warning signs and notices
- Check weather forecast and tide tables
- Fish with a partner or let someone know where you're going
- Carry a fully charged mobile phone in a waterproof case
- Wear appropriate clothing and footwear
