Painted Ray Fishing in Ireland
SaltwaterRoc Péinteáilte
Raja undulata
Description
Painted Ray offer brilliant sport for the dedicated shore angler, especially when targeting the productive marks in Kerry, Cork, and Waterford. Fishing the sandy bays like Tralee Bay, Whiting Bay, or Youghal during the prime months of February, April, May, and August is your best opportunity to connect. Most successful anglers find that a mixed offering of ragworm, mackerel, and sandeel presented on a shore-based rig accounts for the majority of catches. While boat fishing can also yield results, the shore remains the primary method for these beautiful fish. Always ensure you are checking the tide tables, as these rays often push in close to the beach to hunt during the early stages of the flood. Varying your bait combination is the key to triggering a bite.
