Ling Fishing in Ireland
Deep water over wrecMolva molva
Description
Ling are the true heavyweights of the deep, offering an incredible challenge for boat anglers targeting wrecks and reefs. Plan your trip for May through August, when June stands out as the most productive month. Courtmacsherry, Galway Bay, and Donegal Bay are the premier venues to land a monster, with typical fish weighing around 20lb (9.07kg) and the best catches reaching an astounding 38lb (17.37kg). Boat fishing is the only real way to reliably reach these deep-water predators. They are gluttonous feeders, so do not hold back on bait size. To maximize your chances, use large, fresh frozen fillets of mackerel or other oily fish, and be prepared to drop your gear deep into the heavy structure where these impressive fish lie in wait for their next meal.
